lest we forget
to be honest, the most anzac day has ever really meant to me has been a day off work to get rowdy playing two up at the pub. i'm sure I'm not alone and thank god there are such days to remind us lucky younger generation, who haven't been directly affected by the horrors of war, of the great human tragedy that we owe our existence to.
lately I have been able to understand more deeply such issues, still happening in the present day, thanks to our dear friend brad, who has worked as an army medic in afghanistan and iraq.
imagine going to work and people shooting at you? the very same people you are prepared to operate on and try to save their life?
brad certainly has some colourful and fascinating stories to tell, but they are all underpinned with a great sadness because they are all tales of trauma and tragedy, of the broken heart of the human race that still engages in futile conflict.
today I thank those who put themselves on the line every day in my defence or otherwise, and pray that as a race we can evolve out of this state of mind, and they no longer need be in harms way.
so today at the pub, we will cheers to that, and brad.
